The Enterprise Centre
We are excited to introduce our TEDxUniversityofEastAnglia 2018 event venue: The Enterprise Centre!
Opened in June 2015 The Enterprise Centre (TEC) is the UK’s greenest and one of the most sustainable buildings in Europe. It is a modern centre for student entrepreneurship and a place for a range of business tenants to form a vibrant hub alongside teaching and learning space.
The Enterprise Centre is managed by the Adapt Low Carbon Group and meets the highest energy and environmental standards. It was built to the most stringent low ‘energy in use’ Passivhaus standard. TEC surpasses UEA’s previous low carbon buildings in improved insulation, better air tightness and stronger controls on the energy used within the building. Its orientation and triple-glazed windows allow for an abundance of natural light and also reduce heat loss.
The Enterprise Centre minimises the greenhouse gas emissions associated with construction through the innovative use of where possible locally sourced natural and recycled bio-renewable materials that include timber, straw, hemp, clay and stone. It is the largest exterior thatched building in Europe.
TEC provides a unique mix of academic teaching and learning spaces alongside private tenants, creating a dynamic hub of entrepreneurship, innovation and business opportunities. It also hosts EnterpriseCentral, UEA’s student enterprise hub, where students or recent graduates can get support and advice to go self-employed or set up a business.
The Enterprise Centre is located on the campus of the University of East Anglia, opposite the Sportspark and close to the main UEA car park and bus stops. The building also has views from most areas into the historic Earlham Park.
The venue can be accessed by cycle, bus, train and car including park and ride. For further details of all of these services visit the Getting to UEA page on the UEA website.
